Julie Snyder named honorary chair of MAC Printemps

There are just a few weeks to go before the eagerly-awaited fundraising event Les Printemps du MAC, presented by Banque Nationale, takes place on June 3 at the Auberge Saint-Gabriel. After a two-year absence due to the health situation, this 2022 edition, entitled Hasard Bazar, promises to be a colorful affair, and will be presided over by Julie Snyder, host, producer and well-known businesswoman. The event’s organizing committee – made up of young volunteer professionals and co-chaired by Francis Guindon (Vice-President Marketing, WANT Les Essentiels and Quartz Co.) and Lysandre Laferrière (Senior Counsel, Magil Construction) – is proud to welcome Julie Snyder to the 2022 edition of Les Printemps du MAC. A key figure on the Quebec media scene, Julie Snyder is proud to join forces with the MAC and its Foundation to promote and celebrate contemporary art.

Born into a modest family, I walk barefoot through the dawn surrounded by art. My mother doesn’t buy nice sofas or cars. My ski boots are worn, but our walls are adorned with a few original works by little-known artists and two reproductions by Picasso: Mother and Child, a fusion scene of breast-feeding, and Don Quixote with his black-and-white sun. I grew up going to museums, not always understanding abstract art, which I saw as blots and squiggles – “anyone can do that”. Soaked up and guided, I now enjoy breathing in all the art forms that dot my path. I didn’t inherit a business or a fortune, but I was given artistic curiosity. We often underestimate the impact a piece of art can have in a home or office. It’s possible to buy art at different prices. For me, art must above all be accessible and, to do that, we need to awaken people to art. It’s only natural for me to support the Musée d’art contemporain and its Foundation as part of the Printemps du MAC benefit evening. The MAC enriches our cultural heritage. For me, the art of living is living with art, and it’s at the MAC that spring awakens.

– Julie Snyder

The unique MAC Printemps experience
In addition to an exclusive cocktail party in an audacious setting, participants in this benefit evening will be able to dance, enjoy unique experiences and bid on various silent auction lots – including, among others, some twenty works by emerging and established Canadian artists. Curated by Erika Del Vecchio, the auction will begin virtually on May 25, then go on show and close on the evening of June 3. A link to the auction platform will be shared shortly. You can bid on works by Berirouche Feddal, Tess Roby, Paul Hardy, Frances Adair Mckenzie and even a digital video by Laurent Lévesque. True to their reputation, the Printemps du MAC, presented by Banque Nationale, will once again be the setting for a fashion event not to be missed. Diamonds, feathers, armor, sequins, masks, colorful hairstyles and extravagant make-up will complement evening gowns and tuxedos. All looks will be permitted during this inclusive evening where difference, creativity and freedom of expression will be celebrated! Have fun while supporting the MAC
All proceeds from the Printemps du MAC event are donated to the MAC Foundation, whose mission is to financially support the Museum in its various areas of conservation, dissemination and education. Created in 2007, Les Printemps du MAC was born of the desire to raise awareness among younger generations of contemporary art, and of the importance of the MAC’s role in the conservation and dissemination of this heritage in Quebec, Canada and internationally. On average, over $150,000 in proceeds are donated to the Foundation each year thanks to participants and partners. The event is therefore a concrete way of supporting the MAC in its various community activities. The initiative shines every year under the management of the Comité des Printemps du MAC, a group of young philanthropists with a passion for contemporary art, whose mandate is to organize a unique event with real added value for guests, and to raise the profile of the Musée in support of the Fondation du Musée d’art contemporain. For a second year, the committee is co-chaired by Francis Guindon and Lysandre Laferrière.
