LES FÉCONDES RECIPIENT OF THE ENH-NETFLIX FUND’S 4TH CALL FOR PROJECTS

Following the fourth call for projects launched last fall, the École nationale de l’humour today unveiled the 5 projects to receive grants of $35,000 each. The objective of the ENH-Netflix Fund is to support the development of fictional comedy projects for television and film, created by professional writers from all backgrounds who are making their first work as a lead author. One of the five selected projects, LES FÉCONDES, was conceived by Geneviève Beaudet and Laurence Régnier, two up-and-coming authors with whom ToRoS Productions is proud to collaborate in developing this new fiction series.

Synopsis:

Manu, a single, thirty-something woman in early pre-menopause and a nurse at the colorful Ovulo fertility clinic, wants to have a child on her own, using an anonymous donor bank. Worried about bequeathing the genes of a psychopath, or worse, a conspiracy theorist, to her offspring, she asks her friend and fellow receptionist, Pauline, to help her spy on potential donors to find the IDEAL sire. With direct access to donors’ personal information, the two friends have a front-row seat to their Machiavellian project: infiltrating a complex male fauna in order to better use it for their own ends.

What the jury thought:

Well-sketched characters. An environment rich in comic and dramatic situations. All cemented by a rather crude tone that clashes with the environment, which calls for discretion and decorum.
